Wired access is available in the Simularium (40 ports).  Cables can be signed out from the Registration Desk.

 

Wireless connection instructions:

 

MAC OSX http://support.soe.ucsc.edu/soe-wpa/mac-osx

  1. Click on the wireless icon next to the clock. Select "SOE-WPA" from the list of available networks.
  2. Enter your BSOE login name for the "User Name" and your wireless password for the "Password". For 802.1X Configuration, select "Automatic".
  3. If you are prompted about the server's security certificate, click "Show Certificate", "Trust Settings", and then select "Always Trust" to avoid future certificate warnings.
  4. You should now be connected to the SOE-WPA network.  Open Firefox or Safari and browse to a page that you don't normally visit to ensure that your connection is working.  By going to a web site that you don't normally visit, you ensure that your browser is not loading the page from cache and that you have an actual working connection.

  1. Click "Start", open "Control Panel", select "Network and Sharing Center"
  2. Select "Manage wireless networks"
  3. Click "Add" and choose "Manually create network"
  4. Enter soe-wpa into the "Network name" field, and change the "Security type" to WPA-Enterprise and "Encryption type" to TKIP. Click "Next".
  5. Click "Change connection settings".
  6. Open the "Security" tab and ensure the network authentication method is set to Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP), and then click the "Settings" button.
  7. Uncheck the "Validate server certificate" box.
  8. Under the "Select Authentication Method" heading click on the "Configure" button, and uncheck the "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password" box.
  9. Click "OK".

  1. Click "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel". Double-click the "Network Connections" icon. Right-click your wireless adapter's icon and select "Properties". Click the "Wireless Networks" tab.
  2. Click the "Add" button. Enter soe-wpa for the "Network name (SSID)" in lower case. Select WPA for the "Network authentication". Select TKIP for "Data encryption".
  3. Click the "Authentication" tab. Change "EAP Type" to Protected EAP (PEAP). Uncheck both "Authenticate as ..." boxes. Click the "Properties" button.
  4. Uncheck the box for "Validate server certificate". Click "Configure".
  5. Uncheck the "Automatically use my Windows login name" box. Click "OK". Click "OK". Click "OK".
  6. Once your wireless network is configured, your computer will pop up a small box near the clock that you have to click on and then enter your BSOE login name and wireless password..
